Stefan Semb — building local-first

SAMIDA is the name
for how I build.

A local-first AI assistant is the flagship — but the same instinct runs through everything below it: keep it private, keep it self-hosted, keep it running on hardware I actually control.

SAMIDA

Active

A local-first AI assistant that runs Ollama, GPT, and Claude side by side in one interface — with real file tools it can only use after I've approved the exact change.

Pirate Survival

In development

An open-world pirate survival game — procedural river systems, an archipelago built in World Partition, and a slow, deliberate build.

Unreal Engine 5.7C++

PinguHub

Live

The self-hosted server everything else runs on — media, automation, and a handful of always-on services I maintain myself.

Who's building this

I'm Stefan. I build software that runs on hardware I actually own — usually late in the evening, with more terminal tabs open than I'd like to admit.

Local-first isn't really a philosophy for me so much as a preference: I'd rather host something myself and understand exactly how it works than hand it to someone else's server. SAMIDA is where that preference gets applied most literally — everything else on this page shares the same instinct.

Right now
  • Running SAMIDA on an always-on Ubuntu box, reachable only over Tailscale
  • Building Pirate Survival's archipelago in Unreal Engine
  • Keeping PinguHub's dozen-odd services alive
